Chaplain
Methodist Medical Center
In 1976 he recommitted his life to Christ, while serving
in the United States Marine Corps.
After completing his four- year commitment to the Marine
Corps, in 1978 he recognized a call of ministry on his
life and entered a five- year training program in Los
Angles, California to prepare to serve as a missionary -
focusing on leadership and administration. He returned
to Peoria in 1984 to serve with the Harrison Homes
Interdenominational Mission as an outreach director and
associate minister with Joy Fellowship Mennonite Church.
After three years of serving with HHIM, he was called to
pastor the Northside Mennonite Church in Omaha,
Nebraska. Three years later he was called to serve as a
national consultant with the Mennonite Board of Missions
in Elkhart, Indiana. There he assisted conference
leaders in developing mission strategies and helped
start three new congregations in South Bend –Elkhart
community. Brent while serving with the Mission Board
completed his educational goals of obtaining a Masters
of Divinity Degree at Associated Mennonite Biblical
Seminary.
Brent also served as senior pastor of Community
Mennonite Church in Markham, Ill. A suburban
congregation integrated with African-Americans,
Latin-Americans, and European-Americans before returning
to Peoria.
He returned to Peoria in 1997 to do a Chaplain residency
at Methodist Hospital. He works presently as president
of the Community Builders Foundation, a ministry working
to promote unity in the church and a hospital chaplain
at both Methodist and OSF.
He is married to Sandra who has been a friend, and a
fine example of a Christian disciple. They have three
children Michael 25, Christopher 15, and Stephon 9.
